Villains File: Zandorok
(under 4th Edition rules)

Background: The evil sorceror known as Zandorok has lived for a number of centuries. Like his forefathers, he is a master in the dark arts and has ruled with an iron fist over a mystical, hellish realm whose orc-like residents obey and defend him without question. Legends of how he came into his power indicate he sacrificed the one who ruled before he, a blood sacrifice that further increased his own power.

By 1940 (as time measured on Earth), he became fascinated with our world and sought to conqueor it as well. He was quickly opposed by Stephen Haygner, an Earth sorceror who went by the heroic name of Necromancer. The two became bitter enemies and would battle many times. In the late 1960's, when Stephen Haygner mysteriously disappeared, it is believed that Zandorok had a hand in this.

Zandorok sought to attack Earth once more in 1986, this time being stopped by his old foe's son, Alan Haygner going by the name of Mystifier, and a number of allies the youthful sorceror had gathered. The allies soon after formed the team known as the Protectors.

Finally, in 2001, Zandorok decided to alter Earth's past by venturing back to ancient Atlantis and prevented it from being destroyed. From that altered event, he placed himself as their savior and history was altered so that magic and mysticism replaced any industrial advancements. Mystifier and Time Lord were the only ones immune to the altering of time's events, and together they were able to summon heroes from parallel Earths to come to their Earth, to travel back in time, and to prevent Zandorok's evil plan. The heroes for other Earths succeeded, and the time stream was righted once more.

Motivation: Zandorok has a strong hatred of Earth and, in particular, the Haygner lineage. He also has constant designs to expand his reign of control so that he may one day pass it unto a future offspring. He has yet to reach his peak in power, therefore he has not chosen a female to bear his child yet. He is very selfish and will hold that off as long as possible.
